How To Choose the Right Print Size
How to Choose the Right Print Size
Choosing the right size is just as important as choosing the image.
The good news is: you don’t need to guess — a few simple guidelines make it easy.
Start With the Wall, Not the Image
Before choosing a size, look at:
- the width of the wall
- nearby furniture (sofas, beds, sideboards)
- how bold you want the artwork to feel
A common mistake is choosing a print that’s too small.
If in doubt, go one size larger.
Size Guide by Room
🛋️ Living Rooms
For walls above sofas or sideboards:
- Artwork should be around ⅔–¾ the width of the furniture
- Popular sizes:
- Medium walls: 60 × 40 cm
- Larger walls: 90 × 60 cm or bigger
-
Canvas works especially well here as a focal point.
🛏️ Bedrooms
For walls above beds or dressers:
- Slightly calmer proportions work best
- Popular sizes:
- 50 × 40 cm
- 60 × 40 cm
-
Paper prints in frames are often a good choice in bedrooms.
🚪 Hallways & Staircases
These spaces suit:
- vertical images
- smaller sizes
- or grouped prints
Popular options:
- 40 × 30 cm
- A3
Hallways are great places to be a bit more playful.
🖥️ Offices & Smaller Rooms
For desks, studies, and snug spaces:
- A3 or smaller
- Framed paper prints work well
- Choose detail-rich images
Canvas vs Paper Size Tips
Canvas
- Can be larger without feeling heavy
- Doesn’t need framing
- Works well when you want impact
Paper Prints
- Appear slightly smaller once framed
- Allow space for mount and frame
- Best when detail matters
A Simple Rule of Thumb
If you’re unsure:
Measure the wall space and fill at least half of it with artwork.
Artwork should feel intentional — not like an afterthought.
