The Cromer Banksy

🎨 A Vanishing Masterpiece

High on Cromer’s east sea wall, Banksy’s hermit crab mural once stopped visitors in their tracks. Today, the salt air and storms of the North Sea have worn it down to a faint ghost of its former self—but the story it tells is as powerful as ever.

🦀 What Was It?

A shell‑clad crab waves a sign: “Luxury Rentals Only” as three bare crabs scuttle below. Banksy’s seaside satire took aim at Norfolk’s housing crisis and second-home culture.

📍 Where To Find It

East Promenade, Cromer. Head past the colourful beach huts to the sea wall near the ramp. The mural is high enough to avoid the tides, but only visible in good light.

📸 Why Go?

Though faded, it’s a rare chance to stand where street art legend Banksy left his mark on the Norfolk coast. Take in the beach huts and dramatic sea defences while you’re there.

🌊 Love Banksy?

Cromer’s piece was part of Banksy’s Great British Spraycation. Other murals in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft remain in better condition—why not make it an art trail?
